Based in Basingstoke and London, Ayre Chamberlain Gaunt (ACG) is an award-winning progressive, creative and pragmatic architectural studio with a breadth of experience across many sectors and building types. We are seeking an enthusiastic Senior Architect, with a minimum of 5 years post Part 3 experience, with substantial experience in educational projects. Key Terms: Salary competitive, dependent on experience and in line with RIBA recommendations Full time role, 40 hours per week (flexible hours after probation) 25 days holiday 3% contributory pension Private health care through Vitality Free parking Payment of ARB fees Responsibilities - reporting to the Project Director: Manage medium-large sized projects with minimal Director supervision; manage numerous small projects Understand the design project, particularly focusing on our current educational and residential schemes Prepare and develop drawings, models, images and other documents relating to the design and in accordance with the ARB Code of Practice Manage the co-ordination of the internal design team Take responsibility as the team leader for specific areas of the design and project development Liaise with members of the external design team and other associated organisations or companies Thorough knowledge of and compliance with ACG procedures and standards Seek, and record evidence of your continuing professional development (CPD) and an annual Personal Development Plan (PDP) in accordance with the requirements of the RIBA (or equivalent) Winning, leading and overseeing multiple projects; supervising and tutoring junior staff Working with the Directors to set out budget and costs Working with the Directors to set out project specific criteria for success, including deadlines and resources Involvement in business development activities (networking, attending professional events, representing practice etc); able to recognise and respond to potential opportunities, informing directors as appropriate Producing detailed drawings Planning and delivering client presentations Contributing to setting and articulating design philosophy and practice values Attending regular meetings with clients, contractors and consultants, authorities etc Project management and helping to coordinate information Continually developing professional skill set and knowledge to ensure competence for projects Documenting own work conscientiously In return for your dedication and commitment, we offer you an exciting working environment within our fast-growing and friendly studio, as well as the opportunity to work on a variety of Design projects. Required Skills/Experience Essential Minimum of 5-year’s post RIBA Part 3 experience, working in a similar role Substantial educational design experience, preferably higher education Live within 1 hours commute of Basingstoke or be willing to relocate Able to demonstrate ability to undertake the above responsibilities Ability to manage, co-ordinate and prioritise resources Ability to understand and formulate design decisions and present for discussion Ability to use a variety of media in the development and documentation of a design project, with good working knowledge of CAD systems Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines efficiently Good interpersonal skills and able to work independently and as part of an effective team, assisting and supporting team members Flexible attitude Excellent verbal and written communication skills, articulate and diplomatic manner Excellent presentation and organisational skills Able to manage sensitive and sometimes confidential information Highly presentable and professional manner, self motivated Understanding the financial aspects of running a design project on time and on budget Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook and Excel 2015) Sociable, outgoing character with a good work ethic Able to react to a fast paced environment, good time management and attention to detail Ability to assist in the management of architectural assistants on the team Ability to deal sensitively with rising building user and clients groups expectations Desirable Working knowledge of Vectorworks, Sketchup, Revit and InDesign Previous experience with Apple MACs advantageous This description reflects the core activities of the role but it is not intended to be all-inclusive and other duties within the studio may be required in addition to changes in the emphasis of duties as required from time to time. There is a requirement for the post holder to recognise this and adopt a flexible approach to work.
