Senior Healthcare Assistant – Wards (Bank)
Location: Sarum Road Hospital, Winchester – Bank Shifts
Salary: Up to £13.00 per hour (depending on level of experience, training, and qualification)
Overview
Sarum Road Hospital is part of Circle Health Group, Britain's leading independent healthcare provider. The Chestnut Ward is a surgical unit offering elective inpatient and day‑case services in orthopaedics, urology, gynaecology, ophthalmology, general surgery, maxillofacial and related procedures.
The role is fully flexible, working on an “as and when required” basis to supplement staffing during busy periods and cover for staff on leave.
Duties of this role
* Deliver person‑centred care, including assistance with personal hygiene, nutrition, mobility, toileting and emotional support.
* Carry out basic clinical tasks such as monitoring vital signs, blood glucose levels and patient observations (following training and competency).
* Assist with clinical procedures and preparation of equipment and materials.
* Report any changes in a patient’s condition to the nursing team promptly.
* Act as a role model and mentor to junior healthcare assistants, supporting their development.
* Help coordinate daily allocation of tasks, ensuring appropriate prioritisation of care.
Applicants should meet the following criteria
* NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent qualification/experience).
* Experience working as a healthcare assistant in a hospital or clinical setting.
* Ability to perform delegated clinical tasks safely and confidently.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to support and supervise junior staff members.
