Job overview

Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust, Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre is a Headway Accredited Service and strives to deliver perfect care for the people we serve.

We are seeking to recruit a highly enthusiastic and motivated person, who has a positive and forward-thinking attitude towards working with service users who have an acquired brain injury and present with cognitive, behavioural, and emotional problems.

The successful candidate will work within a multi-disciplinary team which includes a Psychiatrist, Psychologists, Physiotherapists, OT’s, Speech Therapists, Social Workers, and Nursing Staff.

Previous experience as an RCT is not essential; what is most important is that the candidate is able to clearly demonstrate positive values and beliefs about working collaboratively with service users and their families.


Main duties of the job

1. To provide care for adults with an acquired brain injury in an inpatient rehabilitation setting.
2. Assist therapy team with the delivery of rehabilitation programmes.
3. Help facilitate patients engaging in prescribed rehabilitation programmes.
4. Help patients maintain safety by carrying out prescribed supportive observations.
5. Escort patients in the local community as part of their rehabilitation programme.
6. Escort patients to appointments at other hospitals or clinical facilities.
7. Complete NEWS 2.
8. Report to Nurse in Charge, medical staff, or therapy staff as appropriate.
9. Act as witness to medication.
10. Support patients to engage in both therapeutic and recreational activities.
11. Facilitate patients’ access to food and drink and document same.
12. Assist in the monitoring of patients’ sleep patterns and document same.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. To contribute to the delivery of a planned programme of care under the direct supervision of the qualified nurse.
2. To carry out individual rehabilitation programmes as defined by the team, under supervision or direction.
3. To report general observations and provide feedback to the qualified nurse both verbally and in written formats.
4. To carry out physical aspects of rehabilitation under the direction of the physiotherapist, speech therapist, occupational therapist, and/or nurse as required.
5. To assist the qualified nurse in administering medication to service-users.
6. To maintain accurate charts that contribute to the assessment of a service-user's physical condition.
7. To use skills and techniques gained during mandatory training to de-escalate situations.
8. To escort service users, as directed by the qualified nurse.

QUALIFICATIONS

* NVQ Level 2 / 3 or willingness to work towards.
* Good standard of education.


KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE

* An understanding of diversity and how it affects practice.
* Previous experience of working within a team.
* Experience of working in a care setting.
* Experience of individuals with Mental Health problems.
* Experience/understanding of working in a rehabilitation setting.
* Knowledge and understanding of acquired brain injury.
