Purpose of post Senior Supervisor
To work as a senior supervisor, supporting the Nursery Manager and Deputy Manager in the day-to-day running of the nursery. To ensure that all children attending the setting receive high-quality care, are kept safe, and have access to rich and stimulating play experiences which meet their individual needs. The Senior Supervisor should lead by example, supporting staff, and maintaining high standards across the setting.
Childcare & Education
* Support managers to provide high standards of quality within the nursery, including the environment, resources, and experiences offered to children.
* Ensure that the nursery complies with relevant legislation and Ofsted requirements.
* Support and guide room leaders and practitioners to effectively observe, support, and extend children's learning.
* Encourage planning that reflects the EYFS and ensures diverse indoor and outdoor learning experiences.
* Supervise and support staff to confidently follow our curriculum and ethos.
* Maintain accurate and effective children's records.
* Work in partnership with parents, carers, and families.
* Demonstrate and promote inclusive practice, ensuring that all children's needs are met.
* Safeguard children by ensuring staff follow child protection policies and procedures.
* Support healthy lifestyles, ensuring nutritional needs are met and Food Safety Regulations are followed.
* Keep up to date with current developments in childcare and education policy and practice.
* Support key workers in their role and monitor the quality of teaching and learning.
Health and Safety
* Share responsibility for health, safety, and cleanliness across the nursery.
* Promote high standards of hygiene and safety in all areas.
* Adhere to all Health and Safety policies and emergency procedures.
* Ensure rooms are well maintained, tidy, and that resources are safe to use.
* Report and record any maintenance issues promptly.
* Participate in regular health and safety reviews.
* Open up and lock down the setting regularly at the start and end of day.
Operational
* Support the manager during inspections and the implementation of recommendations. You may be part of the inspection and do the learning walk or shared observations with the inspector.
* Assist with enquiries, show-arounds, and bookings where required.
* Ensure compliance with data protection and security procedures.
* Promote positive communication with parents and ensure the complaints procedure is followed effectively.
* Support smooth transitions for children moving through the nursery and onto school.
* Assist in maintaining professional standards of the premises and resources.
Staff and leadership
* Lead by example, supporting and motivating the staff team with professionalism and kindness. Coach, supervise and support staff during the sessions to implement high quality teaching and care.
* Provide guidance and supervision to staff, including mentoring and supporting students.
* Encourage positive team working and open communication.
* Contribute to staff development through supervision, feedback, and involvement in appraisals.
* Support the Nursery Manager in the day-to-day running of the setting and be involved in rota and register planning.
General
* Develop and promote strong parental partnerships.
* Undertake other duties as reasonably requested by management.
* Be prepared to attend training, staff meetings, and events outside normal working hours where required.
* Support with administrative tasks and the use of nursery systems, bookings and funding.
* Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
Personal Responsibilities
* Be familiar with and follow nursery policies and procedures, contributing to updates where required.
* Be flexible to cover staff absence or emergencies when needed.
* Manage any concerns, grievances, or issues promptly and professionally, escalating to management where necessary.

Relevant Experience
* Minimum of 2 years working in a senior role (At least room leader level)
Education and Training
Essential
Level 4 and above.
GCSE or equivalent Maths and English
Desirable
Early Years Foundation Degree
Pediatric First Aid Qualification
Knowledge
Essential
* A sound knowledge of child development for children aged birth to five years
* An understanding of the Early years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum
* An understanding of a play based approach to children's learning and the value of outdoors experiences
* Understanding of the key worker role
Desirable
* A knowledge and understanding of current thinking on childcare and education
* Knowledge and understanding of the statutory framework for the EYFS
* Knowledge of child protection procedures
