Your new role
As an HV Technician, you will support the operation and maintenance of a high voltage electrical distribution network operating up to 33kV. You’ll work on substations, switchgear, transformers, and associated plant, ensuring the safe and reliable supply of power to critical operational assets.
The role includes planned and reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis and restoration, and delivery of network improvement works. You will carry out LV and HV switching operations, ensuring safe systems of work in line with statutory requirements and industry standards, including the Electricity at Work Regulations, HSG230, and BS 7671.
You will also use maintenance management systems to record and plan works and take part in a standby and call‑out rota supporting 24/7 operations.
What you'll need to succeed
1. Experience working on high voltage electrical systems (up to 33kV or above)
2. Strong knowledge of electrical distribution networks and HV safety procedures
3. Electrical qualifications (NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent)
4. HV Authorisation, or the ability to achieve it quickly
5. Strong fault‑finding skills and a proactive, safety‑focused approach
6. Ability to work effectively within a team in an operational environment
7. Experience using CMMS or similar maintenance systems
8. Flexibility to support out‑of‑hours work and standby cover
