Why this job matters
As a lead consultant in our Defence Solution Design Authority practice, you will work as a trusted industry partner to our defence customer and support internal business units (Sales, Business, Technology, Security, and Operations), key stakeholders, and externally facing third-party technology providers. You will report to the practice manager and collaborate with internal stakeholders, the customer, and its subsidiaries to conceptualise their strategic vision, capture requirements, and create innovative digital solutions aligned with their digital strategy, transforming their business operations.
You will base your work on a robust ICT framework architecture, security principles, methodologies, industry best practices, and customer compliance policies. As a solution architect, you will provide expert solution architecture expertise and ownership throughout all stages of the solutions design lifecycle. You will be part of an industry-leading Solution Design Authority team working closely with other architects, designers, technology experts, business managers, and business analysts to ensure successful solution delivery across various projects.
Job Overview
As a Compute Network Designer at BT, you will design and develop scalable, secure, and high-performance network infrastructure solutions supporting BT’s extensive network ecosystem, including cloud, data centers, and enterprise systems. Your role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to implement the latest networking technologies that ensure seamless performance for internal and customer-facing services.
Your responsibilities
* Engage with customers, business stakeholders, and key partners to provide end-to-end architecture governance, leadership, and solution decision-making aligned with the Solution Design Authority principles.
* Develop and own enterprise architecture artifacts, strategies, and roadmaps from business and technology perspectives, including 'as-is', 'to-be', and transitional states, addressing stakeholder requirements.
* Provide subject matter expertise to business stakeholders in customer engagement, shaping, and qualifying complex service change, delivery, and resource requirements.
* Respond to complex customer requests such as RFI, PQQ, ITT, and contract change notifications, throughout all stages of the solution design lifecycle.
* Deliver architecture outcomes like proof of concept, whitepapers, bid proposals, and high-level design collateral addressing customer requirements and complex scenarios.
Skills You'll Need
* Enterprise networks (IP Layer 1-7)
* Enterprise network security and boundary protection
* Service provider networks (e.g., DWDM, SDH, OTN)
* ICT vendor technologies (Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, F5, Nokia)
* Industry architecture methodologies (TOGAF, ArchiMate, ITIL, BPMN)
* Experience with enterprise architecture tools (iServer, IBM Doors)
* Experience in responding to complex, multi-vendor propositions and bids
* Developing solution roadmaps and governance structures based on customer requirements
