Join EMAT’s Board of Trustees – Shape the Future of Education
Are you passionate about education and eager to make a lasting impact in your community?
Eastern Multi Academy Trust (EMAT) is seeking four new Trustees (Non-Executive Directors) to support our mission to transform lives and communities through education.
* Remuneration: Voluntary, with reasonable expenses reimbursed
* Time Commitment: Around one day per month
About Us
At EMAT, we empower, motivate, and achieve excellence across our schools in West Norfolk and Suffolk. We’re proud of the life‑changing education we offer and the values that guide our work. Whether for pupils, staff, or volunteers, we believe in doing the right thing.
Our Trustees are the registered directors of the Trust. They play a critical role in shaping our vision, ensuring strong governance, and providing strategic leadership. Trustees hold accountability for the Trust’s performance, uphold the quality of education, and ensure public funds are used appropriately.
As a Trustee, you will:
* Provide strategic oversight and support to the Executive Team
* Challenge and contribute to key decisions
* Uphold our values and mission
* Champion diversity and inclusion
We’re seeking individuals with senior‑level expertise and a deep commitment to education. Experience in any of the following areas is particularly welcomed:
* Employment law / Strategic HR / Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
* Strategic financial planning
* Safeguarding, SEND, or Children’s Services
* Executive leadership in a MAT environment
* Public sector knowledge, including project management or transformation
* Regulatory or governance experience
You don’t need prior board experience — integrity, curiosity, and a willingness to learn are what matter most. A full induction and ongoing training will be provided.
Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion
At Eastern Multi Academy Trust, we believe that a diverse Board is a stronger Board. Diversity brings broader thinking, richer conversations, and better decision‑making. We want our Board to reflect the communities we serve and the children we support.
Different experiences and perspectives matter to us. Your lived experience and personal values are as important as your professional strengths.
To reflect our commitment to inclusive and representative governance, we particularly welcome applications from people who are currently under‑represented on our Board, including, but not limited to, those who:
Identify as women (we previously had 30% female representation but currently have none)
* Are aged 18–35
* Identify as disabled or neurodivergent
* Bring a broad range of workplace experience (you do not need a university degree to be a Trustee)
* Are from ethnically diverse backgrounds
* Are LGBTQIA+
* Have lived experience of SEND, the care system, or were eligible for free school meals
We recognise that everyone has different needs, and we will always seek to accommodate them to support your involvement.
Why Join EMAT?
* Make a Difference: Directly influence educational outcomes for children and communities
* Grow Your Expertise: Gain experience in board‑level leadership and governance
* Inclusive Culture: We value and welcome diverse perspectives
* Flexible Commitment: Around six board meetings a year, with hybrid attendance options
