The post‑holder will be a qualified nurse responsible for delivering nursing services to the practice population.
Supported by the Lead Nurse Practitioner, they will demonstrate safe clinical decision‑making and expert care within their scope of practice.
They will focus upon supporting patients to be healthy, monitoring and managing long‑term conditions, health prevention, screening activities, immunisations and possibly cervical screening.
The post‑holder will work collaboratively with the multi‑disciplinary general practice team to meet patient needs, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures.
The post‑holder will build effective working relationships with other health‑care professionals and work within the team of GPs, nurses and assistants to deliver excellent primary health care services.
Main duties of the job
* Venepuncture, handling of specimens
* Undertaking diagnostic tests and screening procedures (e.g. ECG, cervical cytology)
* Immunisation and vaccination of children, adults and travellers
* Ear examination and syringing
* Wound care, dressings and removal of sutures
* First aid and management of emergencies (e.g. burns, haemorrhage, shock, cardiac arrest) and triage of injuries
* Care and maintenance of equipment
* New patient checks
* Documenting care accurately in the systems provided
* Ensuring arrangements are completed promptly and safely
* Maintaining effective communication with multidisciplinary teams
* Upholding confidentiality of all records in accordance with the NMC guidelines, Data Protection Act 2018, and the practice Confidentiality Policy
* Ensuring professional competency and maintaining current NMC revalidation
* Delivering opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
* Recognising and referring patients with mental health needs, and supporting safeguarding matters
* Providing sign‑posting to relevant clinicians or external services
* Maintaining system records in line with Caldicott and GDPR principles
* Supporting the clinical team with screening procedures and management of patients with chronic illnesses
* Participating in shared learning, event reviews (root cause analysis) and policy implementation
* Ordering supplies and equipment, and supporting junior staff when required
