Supporting food manufacturers and retailers with product innovation including rheology, new product development, value optimisation, instructional development, pilot plant, quality and food safety manufacturing, thermal processing, new technologies, and regulatory affairs.
You could be part of the innovation, research, & technology that guides the global food and drink industry. Campden BRI provides science, technology and innovation support to the food and drink industry. The Process Innovation Team supports our members and clients with consultancy, project work and training activities in the thermal processing area, including process development, validation and optimisation. This encompasses heating (e.g. cooking, pasteurisation and sterilisation) and cooling (chilling and freezing) processes.
Due to the work they do there's an exciting travel element to this role – UK, Europe and globally! Expenses paid for work trips across the globe, recent trips include Turkey, Iceland, Jamaica, South Africa, Italy and Spain.

What you’ll be doing
We are looking for a Process Technologist to join our Thermal Processing Team. You will manage and deliver scientific and technical projects for our thermal processing clients, with a focus on the validation of thermal processes. The job will involve a blend of consultancy, training, and research activities, as part of a close-knit team. A part of this role will be the ability to develop process validation and engineering services for our clients.
* You will visit multiple food and drink manufacturing sites – gaining insight to multiple manufacturing processes, equipment, and practices.
* Supporting technical projects, as guided by the line manager, both offsite and at Campden. This will principally be validation work but could be consultancy or training.
* Contributing to Thermal Processing related research projects.
* Interpretation of data and results and their inclusion into client reports.
* Management of equipment and related records required for undertaking contract work, including equipment maintenance, calibration, consumable stock levels, and bookings.
* Responding to direct technical enquiries from our thermal processing client base.
* Preparing project proposals/tenders for clients to a level agreed with line manager.
* Use data trackers and log thermal temperatures, identify cold spots and use heat mapping.
What we’re looking for
* Chemical engineering graduate.
* Good verbal and written communication skills.
* Demonstrable skills in report writing and data analysis.
* Effective time management skills relating to effective delivery and business practices.
* Full UK/EU driving licence, own transport and able to travel freely worldwide.
* A keen interest in the food industry, ideally across multiple food sectors, including heat preserved foods and chilled/frozen sectors.
* Self-driven and motivated.
* Naturally inquisitive and passionate about technical excellence.
* Can work with a level of autonomy, as well as within a team.
* Good working knowledge of MS Office.
