Hays has worked closely with this national company for several years to recruit for several positions in the Building Services team across the UK. They provide single, multiple, and full multidisciplinary services within the public and private sectors throughout most industry disciplines. A key factor within the organisation is sustainability, providing an innovative service which reduces their clients' carbon footprint. They specialise in multiple sectors, including commercial, housing (social and residential), and education, as well as many more.
Your new role
As the Building Service Engineer, you will provide engineering support to the practice by offering expertise in M&E engineering in the built environment, including design and project management responsibilities. You will work on a large client basis, developing and maintaining relationships. You will ensure all projects are completed to high technical standards, on time, and within budget. Your responsibilities include carrying out fee earnings, designing schemes where needed, especially where high-level technical expertise is required, and assisting in forming sound engineering solutions with the team leader.
You will meet with clients, develop detailed specifications and drawings based on client briefs, review tenders, prepare tender reports and recommendations, and handle fee invoicing each month.
You will also project site work, monitor site activities against specifications, conduct inspections of existing installations, submit condition reports, and meet annual and monthly fee targets as directed by partners.
What you'll need to succeed
To succeed as a Building Service Engineer, you need excellent communication skills, relationship-building abilities, be hardworking and driven. Educational requirements include a degree or master's in engineering. Membership of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers or the Energy Institute is preferred; if not, you should be working towards Chartered Engineer status. Proven experience with time management is essential.
You should have experience using IES (Mechanical) or Amtech (Electrical) design software, AutoCAD, and Revit. Familiarity with relevant legislation, codes of practice, CIBSE guides, building regulations, and industry best practices is required. A full UK driving license and access to a vehicle are necessary for site visits.
