All about the Role

As the Families First Support Officer, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the design and delivery of Peterborough's Families First Partnership Programme part of a national Department for Education (DfE) initiative to strengthen how local areas work together to support children and families.

Reporting to the Strategic Lead for Families First, you will provide professional programme and administrative support across a wide range of activities, including project coordination, stakeholder engagement, data management, and reporting. You will help ensure that information flows smoothly between partners, meetings are well‑organised, and programme documentation is accurate and up to date.

Your work will directly contribute to the successful implementation of a whole‑system approach that places children, young people, and families at the heart of service improvement.

This is a FTC until January 2027

All about our Team

The Families First Programme Team is part of Peterborough City Council's Children's Services and leads on the delivery of the national Families First Partnership Programme locally. The team works collaboratively with services and partners across the city to strengthen early help, safeguarding, and family support arrangements.

Led by the Strategic Lead for Families First, the team includes a Programme Support Officer and two Partnership Secondments, working closely with the Service Director for Practice, Head of Service for Inspection, Improvement and Innovation, and our Corporate Delivery Unit. Together, the team drives programme planning, coordination, stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement activity across the partnership.

All about You

You will be an organised, motivated, and detail‑focused professional with experience supporting programmes or projects in a complex environment. Skilled in managing information, producing clear reports, and coordinating multiple workstreams, you take pride in accuracy and follow‑through.

You will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work confidently with senior officers, partners, and external stakeholders. Competent IT skills, particularly in Microsoft 365 applications, are essential, as is the ability to analyse and present information clearly.

Experience working within local government, children's services, or a multi‑agency partnership environment would be an advantage. Above all, you will bring enthusiasm, reliability, and a commitment to improving outcomes for children, young people, and families through effective programme support.
