Senior Innovation Scientist
Salary: £50,000 - £55,000
Location: Crediton
Hours: Flexible, depending on experience (Hybrid - 3 days office / 2 days home)
Contract: Permanent
Start Date: July 2026
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Innovation Scientist to lead scientific exploration, development, and delivery of innovative products, processes, and technologies.
The role is responsible for translating consumer insights and business strategies into commercially viable solutions, while driving innovation and supporting future growth. You will also provide technical leadership across the business and contribute to the ongoing development of the wider R&D team.
Key Responsibilities
Innovation & Concept Development
Lead the design and delivery of R&D concepts through to proof of concept
Translate consumer insights, market trends, and business needs into scientific solutions
Identify and explore emerging technologies and scientific advancements
Technical Leadership
Act as a subject matter expert within your field
Build strong cross-functional relationships
Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and support issue resolution
Promote a proactive approach to change
Coaching & Development
Support the development of the R&D team through training and mentorship
Share knowledge on technical expertise, compliance, and regulatory standards
Project Delivery
Manage multiple projects and meet key deadlines
Work autonomously with strong organisation and attention to detail
Identify, manage, and escalate risks where required
Adapt to changing business requirements
Risk Management
Analyse and communicate risks effectively
Provide clear recommendations to support decision-making
Promote best practice in strategic risk-taking
Communication
Communicate clearly with a wide range of stakeholders
Tailor messaging to different audiences
Support others in delivering effective communication
Continuous Development
Stay up to date with developments in nutrition and licensed medicines
Identify and pursue ongoing development opportunities
Ensure all activities are completed in line with Health & Safety, Quality, and Compliance standards
Requirements
Advanced degree in a relevant scientific discipline, with strong industry experience
Proven expertise in product development and innovation
Experience in process development (preferred)
Knowledge of project management processes (preferred)
Demonstrated innovation leadership and ability to drive new concepts forward
Strong technical skills and scientific knowledge
Working knowledge of food and/or pharmaceutical regulatory environments (preferred)
Excellent organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple projects in a busy environment
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
