14 month Fixed Term Contract – Apprenticeship
We welcome applications from individuals wishing to become an Apprentice and gain experience in the NHS. You will develop new skills and knowledge whilst working with an established team, gaining valuable work experience and a recognised apprenticeship qualification. You will be enrolled with a local education provider and will be required to complete your Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship Standard qualification within the duration of the placement.

Who are we?
The Rheumatology team is comprised of doctors, nurses and administration staff. We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, hard‑working and flexible person to assist with the smooth running of this busy department. Our dedicated clinical team are at the forefront of innovation and work collaboratively as a multi‑disciplinary team to strive for excellence in patient care.
Responsibilities
* Provide waiting list management for the Rheumatology Directorate.
* Ensure all waiting lists within Rheumatology are maintained accurately, observing the rules of ‘real time data entry’.
* Work in line with the Patient Access Policy and the Trust PAS User Policy.
* Maintain close working relationships between consultants, secretaries, departmental staff, patients, Rheumatology Day Unit and general practitioners.
* Record all relevant information to Trust guidelines in line with Information Governance and policies.
* Implement booked admission protocols and procedures for Rheumatology, including booking dates for unit attendance and initiating cancellations.
* Oversee daily admission lists, ensuring they are full and meet the demands of the consultants and the unit.
* Close liaison with medical secretarial staff to ensure accurate updating of information.
* Compile departmental admission lists and assign patient confirmation times.
* Verify and record all patient details in the patient management system, including waiting list card details.
* Ensure all urgent referrals are dealt with in accordance with Patient Access policy.
Qualifications and Skills Required
* Good general standard of education.
* 4 GCSEs at Grade C/3 or above (or equivalent).
* Good standard of literacy and numeracy.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* Good IT skills.
* Knowledge of Patient Access Policy and real‑time data entry procedures.
* Working knowledge of PAS system and ability to undertake RTT recording.
* Experience with booked admission protocols and patient management systems.
Eligibility Criteria
* Aged 16+.
* Resident in the UK/EEA for the last three consecutive years.
* Must not have a qualification in a similar subject at the same level or above.
* Must not be in any form of formal government‑funded education upon the start of their apprenticeship.
