Job overview

The Calderdale Bladder & Bowel Service within CHFT includes the provision of complex bladder and bowel care.

The service sees children and adults across Calderdale community. The team provide evidence-based triage, diagnosis, treatment and review of patients with complex continence needs.

The clinical team works as part of a wider MDT. The team provide support and advice to the wider public on continence dysfunction. Care is delivered in a wide variety of health and educational settings

This vacancy is to work as a specialist healthcare assistant within the integrated Bladder & Bowel Service, to perform specialist clinical assessments and develop management care plans for complex bladder & bowel conditions within a community setting.


Main duties of the job

* The post holder will work autonomously within the team and work with a designated caseload of individuals.
* The postholder will be responsible for the assessment, management, implementation and evaluation of evidence based programmes of care within the community environment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

* The post holder will be involved in teaching carers and families how to manage any treatment, management or incontinence containment programmes.
* Demonstrates a detailed theoretical and practical knowledge of bladder and bowel conditions.
* Participate in education programmes to other healthcare professionals and carers.


Person specification


QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING

* English and Math GCSE grade 9-2 (A*-E) or equivalent or high level of literacy and numeracy skills demonstrated within application
* Competence based level 2 Qualification e.g. NVQ or Diploma in Care or The Care Certificate issued by an employer
* Willingness to undertake any training or development relevant to the role
* Moving and Handling
* Infection Control
* Customer Care
* Competent / able to evidence the completion of Health Care Assistant core competencies
* Evidence of further training in bladder, bowel or continence areas


KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE

* Previous experience with a healthcare setting (18 months)
* Insight into the roles of responsibilities of the post
* Demonstrate a commitment to a caring profession
* Understand the importance of record keeping
* Experience of record keeping
* Experience in undertaking point of care testing
* Experience in application of basic dressing techniques
* Community lone working
* Evidence of knowledge Colo-rectal, urology or continence care nursing
* Management of complex bladder and bowel care
* Problem solving in relation to speciality


COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIPS (INCLUDING MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES)

* Access to transport to undertake multiple visits to patient’s place of residence
* Ability to work as a team member
* Ability to work in a busy environment
* Able to use own initiative
* Aware of own limitations/ level of competence

The Trust will administer the DBS check on your behalf and will recover the cost (Enhanced £54.40, Standard £26.40 or Basic £26.40) from your salary when you commence in post (including Internal staff). You will also be required to participate in the DBS Update Service and pay the £16 cost per year. This is a condition of your employment.

CHFT is part of the West Yorkshire Association of Acute Trusts (WYAAT), a collaborative of the NHS hospital trusts from across West Yorkshire and Harrogate working together to provide the best possible care for our patients.
