Overview
Opportunity in Histopathology within Derbyshire Pathology for an Expert Biomedical Scientist (BMS) with laboratory leadership experience and histopathology dissection expertise. The role supports a high‑quality diagnostic service and timely, accurate patient care across the Trust.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform complex specimen cut‑ups independently, contributing to service development.
* Support the Quality Assurance and Training programmes alongside the Histology Manager and Cellular Pathology Service Manager.
* Supervise, train and develop laboratory staff.
* Participate in other sections of the Histology service when required.
* Collaborate with team leaders to develop staff and meet team objectives.
* Delegate day‑to‑day management of laboratory functions, ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures.
* Apply lean methodologies to drive change and improve service.
Qualifications and Experience
* Proven laboratory leadership experience, preferably in histopathology.
* Experience managing and developing staff within a laboratory setting.
* Knowledge of UKAS standards, Health & Safety requirements, NEQAS, audits and training/education experience.
* Familiarity with LIMS implementation desirable.
* Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills; proactive and self‑motivated.
