At Black & White Engineering, we’re redefining what’s possible in mechanical building services design for data centres.
If you're an experienced Mechanical Engineer ready to lead at the cutting edge of Europe’s most complex and high‑profile data centre projects? This is your chance to take ownership of landmark, mission‑critical facilities that form the backbone of the digital economy.
In this role, you’ll help shape world‑class infrastructure, influence major international clients, and push the boundaries of resilient, high‑performance design - while advancing your career within one of the fastest‑growing engineering consultancies in the sector.
What’s in It For You
* High‑Impact Project Leadership – You’ll take ownership of the mechanical scope for hyperscale and colocation data centres, guiding projects from concept through to commissioning. Your work will directly influence resilience, performance, and operational excellence across major European developments.
* Client‑Facing Influence – Acting as a trusted technical advisor, you’ll work closely with leading global clients, providing design assurance, strategic input, and value‑driven engineering recommendations across the full project lifecycle.
* Technical Depth & Excellence – You’ll lead and review detailed mechanical designs—from HVAC and chilled water systems to fire protection and ventilation—ensuring alignment with Uptime Institute Tier requirements, ASHRAE guidelines, and international codes.
* Leadership & Talent Development – You’ll mentor engineers, delegate effectively, and foster a culture built on collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement, helping shape the next generation of technical leaders.
* Cross‑Disciplinary Collaboration – Working closely with electrical, structural, architectural, sustainability, and BIM teams, you’ll help deliver coordinated, efficient solutions that meet complex performance, cost, and environmental goals.
* Technical Authority & Governance – You’ll ensure compliance with EN, ISO and all relevant European regulatory frameworks, giving you a key role in maintaining design integrity, quality and client confidence across multiple jurisdictions.
* Extensive experience in mechanical building services design, ideally within mission‑critical environments such as data centres, healthcare or high‑tech manufacturing.
* Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and energy modelling.
* Proficiency with design tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, IES VE, and CFD simulation software.
* Proven ability to lead complex projects and multidisciplinary teams in a consultancy environment.
* Excellent communication skills and a client‑focused approach.
* Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it) with a recognised institution (e.g., CIBSE, IMechE).
In addition, you will be joining a community that focuses on learning and development through regular lunch and learn sessions, investment in accredited professional courses or educational programmes. You can set the pace for your professional development, and whatever path you choose, you will receive relevant support.
