Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the busy Children's Assessment Unit. The Assessment unit is a 24 hour, 7 days a week service that reviews and treats Children of all ages that are referred from the Emergency Department or from GP practices. The successful applicant will be expected to act as a positive role model, deliver high quality nursing care and be keen to broaden their own knowledge and skills within the specialist field of acute Paediatrics. We are looking for an excellent team player with fantastic interpersonal skills. You will need to be flexible and committed to making a positive difference with a willingness to undertake further training. Shifts include a variation of Long days, Nights, Weekends & Bank Holidays.
Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as Priority and At Risk status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.
Responsibilities
* Provide care to children aged 0-18 years in accordance to Trust policies.
* Competently undertake delegated duties in line with the patient0;s needs and offer support to the parents and family.
* Use your knowledge and experience to undertake non-routine duties and take decisions within your area of responsibility.
* Carry out a range of clinical duties, including patient observations (blood pressure monitoring, oxygen saturation, temperature, pulse rate, and respiration), glucose monitoring, collection/testing of urine, faecal, sputum samples and wound swabs, ECGs and blood taking, ensuring delivery of high-quality patient care.
* Participate in patient assessment providing high quality holistic patient care and escalate concerns to other clinical staff.
* Practice safe standards of care following Trust guidelines and policies.
* Provide clinical care in accordance with infection prevention and health and safety policies and procedures.
* Maintain the work environment in line with Trust infection control and patient safety policies.
* Work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure patients are cared for in a safe and professional environment.
Qualifications and requirements
* Paediatric experience is required.
* Flexible and committed to making a positive difference with a willingness to undertake further training.
* Ability to be a positive role model and excellent team player with strong interpersonal skills.
* Shifts include variation of long days, nights, weekends and bank holidays.
* Preference may be given to internal Trust staff and others meeting the Person Specification as applicable.
