Application Centre Materials Validation Engineer
We are seeking a skilled and hands-on Composite Mechanical Test Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have direct experience in mechanical testing of composite materials, with a strong ability to interpret and analyze test results. Experience in implementing and maintaining, but not limited to: BS EN ISO/IEC 17025 and NADCAP certifications is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
* Implementation of BS EN ISO/IEC 17025 within the facility and responsible for ongoing surveillance
* Implementation of NADCAP within the facility and if applicable working with the wider Heanor site to gain recertification, inclusive of the Applications Centre and responsible for ongoing surveillance of the Application Centre. Liaising with the Heanor site Quality function as needed or applicable.
* Implementation of all relevant, but not limited to Airbus standards and test methods within the facility.
* Plan, execute, and document mechanical tests on composite materials and components (e.g., tensile, compression, shear, fatigue, impact).
* In-depth understanding and ability to operate and maintain mechanical testing equipment, ensuring accurate and reliable test results.
* Working with technicians to analyze and interpret test data, preparing clear technical reports and recommendations to stakeholders and customers. Whilst being able to clearly identify rogue data and respond in a scientific and structured manner.
* Monitoring and evaluation of long-term testing data - ensuring consistency of methods and practices, reporting on the process effectiveness & stability.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&I, Quality, Manufacturing) to support product development and problem-solving, representing the Customer Engineering function.
* Ensure all testing activities comply with BS EN ISO/IEC 17025 and NADCAP standards. Plus all other relevant test methods and standards as they become applicable to our growing facility: Airbus.
* Lead or support the implementation and maintenance of laboratory accreditation and certification processes. (Collaboratively with the Application Centre Manager, Area/Team Lead, Maintenance Technologist and the Application Centre Technical Co-ordinator).
* Collaboration and best-practice sharing with colleagues globally - particularly with our Wrexham facility.
* Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to the development of best practices in the testing laboratory.
* Train and mentor junior staff or technicians as required.
Strongly Desirable Attributes:
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
* Proven hands-on experience in mechanical testing of composite materials.
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex test results and report out in written and oral formats to stakeholders, customers and at all levels of the organisation
* Demonstrated experience implementing and maintaining BS EN ISO/IEC 17025 and NADCAP certifications. (Airbus standards would also be preferred)
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
* Experience in an accredited testing laboratory environment.
Desirable Attributes:
* Familiarity with additional industry standards and customer requirements.
* Experience with data analysis software and laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
* familiarity with Six Sigma methodology would be beneficial, though not essential for the role.
