The Division of Media, Communication and Performing Arts (MCPA) seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Media Practice. The primary purpose of this role is to work collaboratively with an established team of academics to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses, enhancing our portfolio of film and media modules.

QMU has a long track record of delivering industry-relevant media, communications, and film degrees. Joining an established team of film and media academics, you would contribute to the delivery and leadership of existing modules from QMU’s well-established courses to provide students with a practical, broad and employable skill set.

The successful candidate will combine academic knowledge with up-to-date industry-relevant skills in the broad area of film and media, with a focus on photography.

Applicants should have a postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject area, or significant equivalent professional experience.

While applicants would require understanding of the wider field of media and cultural studies, they would be expected to provide the Division with specific knowledge and expertise regarding photography practice and visual culture. We are also particularly interested in candidates with specific knowledge of podcasting and/or animation.

In the first year of appointment, the post holder would primarily focus on delivering existing degree programmes and in addition, they may be required to contribute towards developing new programmes and modules related to their knowledge and expertise.

Applicants would benefit from professional industry experience and/or strong industry connections.

Specific modules that the postholder may contribute to include:

• Photography and Visual Culture (3rd and 4th year undergraduate option)

• Media and Creative Industries (1st year undergraduate)

• Undergraduate Dissertations

The Division of Media, Communication and Performing Arts offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Content Creation, Drama, Arts Management, Acting, Costume, Strategic and Political Communications, Film, Media, Digital Marketing and Public Relations. The Division also has several successful collaborations with other organisations delivering QMU validated degree programmes. Staff within the Division submitted to REF. If the post-holder has a track record of relevant research outputs and wishes to be appointed on a Teaching and Research contract, then they will be able to join the Research and Knowledge Exchange Centre for Culture in Society.
