We are recruiting on behalf of a secondary school in Middlesbrough for an experienced, inspiring, and dynamic Head of Mathematics to lead their Maths department.
This is a full-time, senior leadership role with responsibility for shaping the vision, strategy, and delivery of mathematics across Key Stages 3–5.
The school is looking for a candidate who is passionate about raising standards, supporting colleagues, and developing engaging, inclusive Maths provision for all students.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead, motivate, and develop the Maths team, providing support and mentoring to staff.
* Plan, implement, and monitor the Maths curriculum across all key stages.
* Ensure high-quality teaching and learning in Maths lessons.
* Analyse student performance data to inform teaching strategies and interventions.
* Manage departmental budgets, resources, and timetabling efficiently.
* Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports students’ academic, social, and emotional development.
* Contribute to whole-school leadership, policies, and development plans.
* Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies as needed to support student progress.
Person Specification / Key Skills:
* Qualified teacher with QTS and extensive experience teaching Maths across KS3–5.
* Proven leadership experience within a Maths department or similar.
* Strong knowledge of the Maths curriculum, assessment strategies, and exam specifications.
* Excellent interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills.
* Commitment to raising attainment and fostering a love of Maths among students.
* Ability to lead, inspire, and support colleagues.
Qualifications:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
* Relevant degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field.
* Leadership or management qualification desirable but not essential.
