Clinical Nurse Specialist - Fracture Liaison Service/Bone health
Job Summary
This is a fixed‑term secondment opportunity for 12 months to cover maternity leave. The role is part of the Fracture Liaison Service (FLS), which works with patients over the age of 50 sustaining a fragility fracture to identify those with osteoporosis or at high risk of fractures and place them on a personalised treatment pathway. The FLS is crucial in reducing hospital bed use and NHS expenditure.
Main duties of the job
The role requires covering clinics and patient calls to provide results and involves extensive written communication. Experience of history taking and carrying out patient assessments would be desirable.
Duties Include
* Identify patients sustaining fragility fractures and arrange comprehensive investigations.
* Recommend appropriate treatment pathways following results.
* Participate in local clinical audits and national FLS collaborations.
* Provide specialist education and training for staff, patients and primary care colleagues.
* Lead workshops for newly diagnosed patients.
* Assess and implement treatment pathways independently.
* Visit wards, fracture clinics, day units and rheumatology clinics to assess patients within the best time‑frame.
* Display excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Person Specification
Essential
* Evidence of recent clinical practice relevant to the post (Trauma and Orthopaedics/Rheumatology).
* Significant post‑registration experience at Band 5 level.
* Registered Nurse/AHP.
* Excellent verbal and written English.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly liaison with multidisciplinary team members.
Desirable
* Sound knowledge of osteoporosis and fracture prevention.
* Experience advising patients on recommended treatment or lifestyle changes.
* Experience of history taking.
* Experience in audits/quality improvement.
* Experience working both in teams and independently.
* Confidence providing education to trust colleagues, patients and primary care teams.
