What does the role look like?
The Commercial Accountant will play a key role in delivering accurate financial reporting, strengthening financial controls, and supporting the Finance Manager with insightful analysis to drive business performance.
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Commercial Accountant will take ownership of core accounting activities while supporting the wider finance team and business stakeholders.
Key areas of responsibility include:
* Ownership of monthly management accounts and balance sheet integrity
* Supporting an efficient and well-controlled month-end close process
* Maintaining and improving financial controls and accounting processes
* Providing financial analysis and insight to support business decision-making
* Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and performance tracking
* Overseeing transactional finance activities and resolving complex queries
* Identifying opportunities for process improvement, automation, and efficiency
* Partnering with stakeholders across the business to enhance financial understanding

You bring a strong technical foundation in accounting, combined with the ability to step back and translate numbers into meaningful business insight. Comfortable taking ownership, you ensure accuracy and control while continuously seeking opportunities to improve processes and efficiency.
Proactive and solutions-focused, you’re confident working across the full finance cycle, particularly month-end, reporting, and balance sheet integrity, while maintaining a strong control mindset. You communicate clearly with both finance and non-finance stakeholders, building strong relationships and influencing decision-making with credible, data-driven insights.
Organised and analytical, you can manage competing priorities and perform under pressure without compromising quality. Above all, you’re motivated by driving continuous improvement, strengthening financial performance, and playing a key role in supporting business growth.
What You'll Bring:
* Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA).
* Strong experience in financial reporting, month-end close, and general ledger management.
* Solid understanding of accounting principles, financial controls, and audit requirements.
* Demonstrated ability to prepare and review management accounts with accuracy and insight.
* Experience producing and owning balance sheet reconciliations with a high level of integrity.
* Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and support commercial decision-making.
* Advanced Excel capabilities and confidence using accounting systems and reporting tools.
* Experience working in a fast-paced, commercially focused environment.
* Ability to identify process improvement opportunities and contribute to automation or transformation initiatives.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly.
* Proactive, organised, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
* A collaborative mindset, with the confidence to support and guide junior team members when needed.
