As a key member of the Senior Management Team, the new Manufacturing Manager is responsible for the smooth operation of all manufacturing activities including people, methods, systems and equipment. You are responsible for producing quality components on time from models and drawings to support the production of UPVC and aluminumwindow tooling, other company OEM designed machinery, sub-contract work, and other products as required.
Each applicant must be able to demonstrate the following experience: 10 years manufacturing experience in an engineering business.
5 years experience in a hands-on manufacturing leadership/management role in particular, managing Programmers, machinists and operators.
Knowledge of modern machining techniques, programming, and the latest developments in tooling.
Evidence of achieving qualifiable continuous improvement
Forklift and first aid experience would be very useful
Role Responsibilities: Oversee a range of machines, including 3/4/5 axis CNC milling machines, CNC turning machines, wire EDM machine and manual machines to produce a range of company products.
Plan work, ensuring full machine utilisation and production dates are achieved. Provide feedback on progress of orders and manage any escalations.
Manage projects of varying budgets, levels and complexity, as required. Provide feedback on progress.
Analyse and report on production processes, methods, schedules, downtime, cycle times, availability of machines and waste management.
Improve manufacturing methods to suit the businesss need for short lead times and efficient machining.
Create, manage and maintain accurate routes for capacity planning and costing purposes. Utilise process simulation software to test and find the most appropriate production strategies.
Engage with tooling and work-holding suppliers and ensure we have access to the latest innovations to test them out against our current methods, providing full cost/performance analysis.
Liaise with Design to ensure that all works routings, drawings, models, and customer samples are available and correct to begin the manufacturing of the component. Provide feedback and collaborate with Design to ensure new designs or any amendments can be produced efficiently.
Co-ordinate all tooling, ensuring we have the necessary items in place where and when we need them. Proactively identify new tooling requirements and keep the tool dispenser fully stocked.
Ensure all fixtures and equipment are stored correctly, ensuring all required elements for manufacture are easy to locate.
Work with suppliers as required, to ensure we receive equipment and stock at competitive prices and within acceptable delivery times.
Ensure that all parts are subjected to first off and batch inspection, as required. Order, control, and manage all required inspection equipment.
Identify and report non-conformances (NCR), aiding with NCR root cause analysis.
Ensure all completed works orders are signed off correctly.
Use the Companys MRP system, to determine outstanding orders and requirement dates.
Assist with the production of quotations and job costing exercises, as required. Includes providing material specifications for quoting or purchasing.
Manage and provide ongoing development of standard operating procedures relating to manufacturing processes (continuous improvement).
Identify, direct and manage continuous improvements regarding plant and machinery. Create and manage budget/capex plans for new machines ensuring a return on investment.
Manage machine servicing, plans and repairs, ensuring that relevant preventative maintenance systems and procedures are implemented to reduce the likelihood of machine failure, breakdown, and accidents.
Manage the wide range of software deployed in support of manufacturing and create a long-term strategy to consolidate whilst ensuring we remain aligned with our design software (Solid Edge) and the principles of moving over to a fully 3D design package.
Adhere to the companys quality and H&S management system and supporting processes (ISO9001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018). Ensure all staff use and wear appropriate PPE.
Day to day line management of the manufacturing team, including:
allocation of tasks to ensure all work is delivered on time and to required quality standards.
cross training to ensure effective cover is in place when required.
team and personal training and development, including skills matrix.
performance management, including objective setting and reviews.
absence management, including ensuring company sickness absence processes are followed.
effective communication, maintaining high levels of engagement and morale across the team.
carry out the role of First Aider and Fire Warden. Training will be provided.
A competitive salary and package is on offer for the right candidate dependent on experience and industry exposure. Basic salary is approx £65k - £75k.
