Health, Safety & Environmental (HS&E) Site Lead
Overview
We are looking for an experienced HS&E professional to lead and manage Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental compliance at our site. This is a key leadership role responsible for implementing corporate policies, driving continuous improvement, ensuring legal compliance, and supporting the wellbeing and safety of all employees. You’ll work closely with site leadership and external regulators to create and maintain a safe and sustainable working environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the site’s main source of expertise and support on all Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental matters.
* Implement central HS&E policies and continuously improve site systems, standards, and practices.
* Ensure compliance with all legal, corporate, and external regulatory requirements.
* Lead investigations into major incidents, accidents, or environmental issues, identifying root causes and ensuring corrective actions are taken.
* Take an active role in the site’s HS&E committee and Green Team, helping to shape and drive the HS&E strategy.
* Approve and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to health, safety, and environment.
* Deliver and advise on site-wide training to ensure all employees are equipped with the knowledge and skills to work safely.
* Conduct regular audits and reviews of HS&E practices and lead external audits with the Central Audit Team.
* Collect and report data on HS&E performance, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
* Oversee the risk assessment process, ensuring all risks are properly managed and mitigated.
* Represent the site during visits from regulatory bodies such as the HSE, Environment Agency, and SEPA.
* Manage the accident and incident reporting process, driving a culture of learning and prevention.
* Serve as the key contact for regulatory authorities and insurers on matters such as emergency planning, fire safety, and RIDDOR compliance.
* Collaborate with Occupational Health to ensure employee health and safety needs are fully supported.
* Provide leadership and coordination across all HS&E resources at the site, ensuring readiness to meet all compliance demands.
What You’ll Bring
Essential:
* NEBOSH Certificate or NEBOSH Diploma Part 1 (or equivalent qualification)
* Substantial experience in a Health & Safety role within a manufacturing environment
* Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and its practical application
* Technical membership of IOSH (TechIOSH)
Desirable:
* Chartered or higher-level IOSH membership (e.g. CMIOSH)
* Environmental qualification (e.g. NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management or IEMA Certificate/Diploma)
* Membership of IEMA
* Degree in a relevant Health & Safety or Environmental discipline
* NEBOSH Diploma Part 2
