CAMHS Child and Family Mental Health Support Worker

Main duties of the job

* Provide practical and therapeutic interventions to children and young people under supervision.
* Support parents and carers individually or in groups for specific clinical needs (e.g., ADHD, Autism Spectrum Conditions).
* Contribute to assessments and care planning alongside qualified clinicians.
* Gather and share relevant information with care coordinators to support wellbeing.
* Facilitate referrals to other agencies when appropriate.
* Participate in safeguarding and risk assessments.
* Maintain accurate records and comply with Trust policies and mandatory training.

Job responsibilities

As a Family Support Worker, you will:

* Work as part of a multi‑disciplinary CAMHS team, delivering interventions that form part of an overall care plan.
* Communicate effectively with families and professionals across health, education, and social care sectors.
* Use advocacy and motivational skills to overcome barriers and support engagement.
* Manage a varied caseload, prioritizing tasks and responding flexibly to changing needs.
* Attend supervision, team meetings, and contribute to audits and service development.
* Ensure compliance with confidentiality, equality, diversity, and health & safety standards.
* Travel across Somerset to provide support in homes and community settings.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* NVQ3, HNC/HND equivalent
* GCSE English and Maths Grade C or above, or equivalent
* Commitment to Continuing Professional Development
* Care related qualifications, i.e. NVQ, Social Work or Social Care, Nursing, Occupational Therapy
* Evidence of recent relevant training


Experience

* Previous experience in mental health or social care setting
* Previous work with children and young people, either directly/indirectly (or personal experience or providing care)
* Experience of undertaking assessments
* Working with people in their own homes


Additional Criteria

* Understanding of mental health
* Access to own private transport and have use of a car whilst at work
* Knowledge of children and young people services
