At Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, the Workforce Development and Student Support Team supports pre and post registration students and learners across a range of non medical professions, runs the trust wide Preceptorship programme for newly qualified practitioners and delivers clinical skills training. We are recruiting to the position of Practice Educator for the Student Support Team. The Practice Educator role is designed to influence the quality of the clinical learning environment by providing support, educational input and development activities for all non-medical healthcare students on pre-registration training programmes, BTEC and T-Level college students on healthcare related courses, newly qualified nurses on the preceptorship programme, as well as their educators/assessors/supervisors. The Practice Educator will take part in school and college engagement events, inspiring our future registrants into health care professions and attending local universities to support open days and meet with students on pre-registration courses. We are looking for an individual who is motivated, enthusiastic and passionate about educating the future workforce. Our department primarily operates Monday-Friday between 8.00am and 6.00pm, with occasional weekend work to support attendance at local university and college open days.
Main duties of the job
The role aims to enhance the quality of practice and the practice placement experience and positively contribute to the future healthcare professional workforce.
The Practice Educator will:
* Maximise the number of students who can be supported within clinical practice areas.
* Ensure that the student experience is of the highest quality and enables the greatest benefit from the individual clinical learning experience.
* Enhance and support the role of the Practice Assessor, Practice Supervisor, Practice Educator and Preceptor.
* Ensure that high-priority issues for the Trust, such as dignity and respect, patient safety, patients first, and dementia care are included in student supervision and preceptorship activity.
* Assist with students experiencing difficulty and liaise with the universities to develop remedial action plans.
* Support for newly qualified professionals will be provided during their preceptorship and induction period.
