Electronic Component Engineer

Responsibilities
* Act as a point of contact for engineering queries relating to components.
* Support projects in the selection of parts/components for new designs.
* Liaise with internal departments including Design, Purchasing, Manufacturing, and Test.
* Provide technical advice and assistance to other business and engineering functions and to the user community.
* Identify obsolescence and other issues and provide replacement or alternative parts to meet project, customer reliability, safety and legislative requirements.
* Apply understanding of legislative compliance (e.g., REACH, RoHS, Conflict Materials).
* Contribute to the management of supported PLM tools.
* Develop an understanding of components and their relation to our products and services.
* Be accountable for validation of selected components and suggest alternatives where applicable. Understand the purpose of a preferred parts/manufacturers list.
* Understand the domain in which components will be used and the imperatives of the user and customer communities.
* Address obsolescence issues arising in our products, systems and projects.
* Deliver work packages related to services offered by component engineering (e.g., RoHS, REACh, Trade Compliance, Counterfeit management, LTB and PCN notices).
* Understand and manage the different solutions required within different scenarios (Materials, Chemicals, Standards, Software).
* Provide technical expertise to sub‑divisions and drive improvements to processes and related equipment.
* Provide engineering advice and direction to subcontractors and assume responsibility for procurement aspects of obsolescence requests.
* Manage workload and communicate issues timely to avoid impacting customer support.
* Represent the company in technical interactions with external organizations.
* Initiate, approve, issue and present documentation covering this work.
* Produce estimates for packages of work.
* Disseminate component knowledge and application within the company.
* Liaise with team members, project teams, disciplines, groups, and subcontractors on technical and programme matters.
* Report on progress of obsolescence‑related information requests.
* Ensure effective collaboration between engineering and other disciplines.
* Provide progress reports as required by company procedures and practice.
* Participate in visits/trials and represent the company on‑site or off‑site as necessary.
* Ensure compliance with all company safety and security procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
* HND or degree level education or significant experience in electronic or related engineering.
* Understanding of REACH, RoHS and Conflict Materials and how they affect obsolescence or replacement part selection.
* Sound design or repair experience in analogue and digital electronics down to component level (desirable).
* Good verbal and written communication skills.
* Experience with Thales supported PLM tools would be an advantage.
