Overview
The Registered Nurse Associate role bridges the gap between the Rehab Care Assistants and Registered Nurses. The role is professionally regulated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Holders of this qualification will be required to register and re-validate as per NMC registration requirements in order to practice as a Nurse Associate in England.
Responsibilities / Main duties
Examples of specific duties that the post holder will carry out may include developing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care, medication administration and supporting doctors' rounds, providing personal care, clinical observations, dressing, moving and handling and providing nutritional support to patients. Good communication skills are required to liaise with patients, families and other colleagues and documenting care provided. Clinical skills include recording patient's physical observations and ECG recordings, assessing patients' conditions through observations and test results, assess comfort of patients and instigate any emergency procedures as required.

* Ability to develop and maintain own scope of practice as required by the ward undertaking venepuncture, cannulation and catheterisation and other clinical skills are required following a period of supervision and competency assessment
* Ability to safely manage and administer medication as required by the service area - following supervised practice and medication competency sign off, will be required to undertake medication rounds and all medications requiring a second nurse check must be undertaken with a Registered Nurse

Qualifications
* Active Nurse Associate Registration with NMC
* Level 5 foundation degree or equivalent
Desirable
* Previous Inpatient/ Rehabilitation care experience
* Additional post graduate education/ training
Skills / Knowledge
* Ability to deliver safe patient care, including medicine administration, recording/reporting patient observations and ECGs
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Good IT and Electronic Patient Record system knowledge
Desirable
* Able to interpret NEWS2 and have good understanding of the deteriorating patient
* Understanding of sub-acute rehab and palliative care
* Experience using SystmOne or similar Electronic Patient Record system
