Teaching Assistant & Welfare Officer Location: Winchester, Hampshire Contract Type: Agency Contract 1-year, Term Time Only Salary: £95-100 per day, PAYE Start Date: 1st September 2025 Hours: 8.15 to 4 pm (some flexibility available) We’re looking for a warm, organised, and proactive Teaching Assistant & Welfare Officer to join a welcoming secondary school in Winchester. This is a rewarding and varied role that combines student health and wellbeing, learning support, and key pastoral responsibilities. You’ll be a vital member of the wider pastoral and SEND teams, helping to make sure all students are supported both emotionally and practically during their time in school. Your role will include: Acting as a first point of contact for students who are unwell or have had an accident during the school day Sending first day absence texts and supporting the monitoring of student attendance Supporting the emotional and academic well-being of students, particularly those with SEND or long-term health conditions Acting as a keyworker for students who require more personalised support, and helping them to fully access the curriculum Liaising regularly with parents, carers, the school nursing team, and external professionals Coordinating on-site immunisations and managing communication with families Assisting with interventions for students with additional needs, including autism, anxiety, and dyslexia We’re looking for someone who: Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills Can work calmly under pressure and handle sensitive situations with care and confidentiality Understands the importance of inclusion and is passionate about supporting young people Is confident using systems like Microsoft Excel and Word (knowledge of Arbor or similar systems is a bonus) Brings a positive attitude, flexibility, and a good sense of humour to the team What matters most is your empathy, resilience, initiative, and dedication to supporting young people.
