Offer description

We’re the UK's largest ports operator with a network of 21 ports around Britain. We handle around one quarter of the UK's seaborne trade and contribute £7.5 billion to our economy every year. It’s a story we’re proud of but it doesn’t end there. We’re transforming our business and embracing the future. Our UK roles embrace diversity, nurture talent, support growth, and prioritize safety culture. Join our VTSO team! We need a VTSO Operator to monitor and regulate vessel navigation for safe passage in the Harbour. Job Responsibilities: Monitor and regulate navigation, ensuring that statutory regulations and guidelines are strictly followed. Provide vessels using the Humber with necessary information, advice, or direction to achieve a safe passage through the harbour. Collate and disseminate information to all river-users, acting as a link between vessels and those concerned with their movements within the estuary and associated ports. Ensure that “River Broadcasts” are promulgated by VHF every two hours, containing crucial information on weather, tides, and other relevant navigational data. Act as the first contact for emergencies and incidents, potentially leading to the activation of emergency plans. Assist in monitoring maximum drafts for the Ouse, Trent, and Havens, limits for Passage Plan Vessels, under keel clearances, LW sailings/berthings, and air drafts for the Humber Bridge. Be proactive in situations that may lead to close quarters scenarios or where non-compliance with regulations, plans, and procedures is observed. Compile various records and reports related to events and incidents in the VTS area. Initiate and attend the MRC Immingham when required. Skills, Experiences, Qualifications, and Proficiencies Essential: Understanding of the VTS Function. Geographical knowledge of the Humber Harbour Area is advantageous. Excellent communication, organisation, and I.T. skills. Great teammate. Must hold a valid UK driving licence. Willingness to undertake further training as necessary. Ideal: Certificate of Proficiency "Officer of the Watch II/I" or C0103/1 or V103/1 qualification. Previous VTS Experience. Knowledge of Marine Legislation. Additional Information: When joining ABP, you will find an environment that is both welcoming and challenging. We reward our employees well and offer a generous remuneration package, employer pension, private health insurance, and a range of other benefits. We are committed to ensuring our employees feel valued and supported. Please note that ABP undertakes random screening for substance abuse and operates a zero-tolerance policy. A medical will be required before starting this position also. We encourage applications from all qualified individuals, promoting diversity and inclusivity. Candidates must undergo pre-employment screening to Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS).
