Business Manager (Secondary) - Fixed Term until 8 August 2026
Craigroyston Community High School
Salary: £46,023 - £54,476
Hours: 36 per week, 52 weeks

We are looking to appoint a highly skilled, motivated and experienced Business Manager to our Senior Leadership Team. While previous experience in a school setting is not essential, skills and experience in managing finance, budgets, health and safety and people through HR processes are key. The role of School Business Manager is crucial to the effective organisation and delivery of support services. The successful candidate will work closely with the headteacher and will be responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of effective services including finance, human resources, health and safety, facilities management and administration. The successful candidate will line manage all support staff, which includes the administration team, school and pupil support assistants, pupil support officers and technicians.

Craigroyston Community High School is a non-denominational secondary community school serving a catchment area in the northwest of Edinburgh. The school roll is approximately 750. The locality is undergoing regeneration with 750 new homes being built. The catchment area includes a designated area of high deprivation, with Free Meal Entitlement at 40% and approximately 25% of pupils requiring additional support for learning. Approximately 10% of pupils are Looked After Children (LAC).

The curriculum aims to provide a portfolio of skills, experiences and qualifications to support positive destinations after leaving school, with strong college links and vocational options alongside traditional subjects. This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. If an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more outwith the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to satisfactory outcome of both pre-employment checks.


Responsibilities

* Line manage all support staff, including the administration team, school and pupil support staff and technicians.
* Develop, implement and monitor effective services in finance, HR, health and safety, facilities management and administration.
* Work closely with the headteacher to support the school’s strategic objectives.


Qualifications and experience

* Experience in managing finance, budgets and HR processes.
* Experience in health and safety management.
* Strong leadership and people management skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a school setting is not essential, but relevant experience is key.
