Offer description

Software Engineering Technical Team Lead (Web & App)

We are commercial property specialists operating across the UK. At Bruntwood, we're committed to offering more than just outstanding office, coworking, retail and lab spaces. Everything we do is tied into our vision of building vibrant communities, whilst providing businesses with the support and expertise they need to grow.

Summary and purpose: This is a hands‑on role, shaping high‑quality web and app experiences, combining modern UI engineering with leadership to deliver impactful digital products that drive real customer and commercial value. You’ll also be responsible for hands‑on engineering tasks, whilst providing leadership and guidance to a small team of 3x Software Engineers.

What we’re looking for:

* Hands‑on experience in UI development using React and TypeScript.
* Experience building across the stack, with Node.js and MongoDB (or similar schemaless databases).
* Proven experience in implementing CI/CD pipelines and automation – we use GitHub Actions.
* Managerial experience would be highly beneficial; if you don’t have direct managerial experience, ideally you’ll have mentored/support developers and are keen to manage.
* Experience of effective collaboration and project work with other digital teams including CRM.

What you’ll be doing:

You will work closely with a dedicated Head of UX & UI and other cross‑functional teams, including product, design, sales, marketing, and customer support, to build software features and enhancements through quality engineering processes, that meet the needs of our customers, their end users, and support our business objectives.

* Take an active role in the development process by designing, coding, and testing UI solutions using React, React Native, TypeScript, and Node.js.
* Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of software engineers, guiding them in their day‑to‑day tasks, code reviews, and overall professional growth.
* Establish and enforce UI development best practices, coding standards, and architectural guidelines to ensure the delivery of high‑quality, scalable, and maintainable code.
* Develop and maintain efficient CI/CD pipelines for UI applications, automating build, test, and deployment processes to enable faster delivery and improved productivity.
* Implement and enforce quality control processes, including code reviews, unit testing, integration testing, and performance testing, to ensure the stability, reliability, and performance of UI applications.
* Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including product managers, designers, and backend engineers, to understand requirements, clarify technical details, and ensure smooth integration of UI components with backend systems.
* Create and maintain technical documentation, including architectural diagrams, design specifications, and development guidelines, to ensure clear communication and knowledge sharing within the team.
* Stay up to date with the latest UI development trends, tools, and frameworks, and evaluate their potential to enhance the team's productivity and deliver high‑quality user experiences.

Benefits

* 28 days holiday plus your birthday off work – you can also buy & sell holidays.
* Company bonus – paid annually.
* 24 hours a year volunteer time – opportunities to support the causes that matter most to you.
* Sabbatical of up to 12 months after five years with us.
* Healthcare cash plan for all colleagues – claim back medical expenses such as optical, dentist & physiotherapy. We also offer free private healthcare cover on an opt‑in basis.
* Life assurance cover for all colleagues.
* Up to 8% matched pension scheme.
* Discounts & cashback at leading retailers.
* Enhanced maternity / shared parental leave – 26 weeks fully paid leave.
* Interest free loans up to £2000 towards learning a new skill.

Our ambition is to make Bruntwood a truly diverse and inclusive place to work, reflective of the communities we live and work in. We encourage applications from ethnic minorities, disabled people, and those who are neurodiverse.
