Overview
Lead Nurse Gynaecology Outpatients / Deputy Lead Colposcopy Nurse – dual role within the gynaecology service.
Responsibilities
* Manage and deliver clinical services within the Gynaecology outpatient department clinic.
* With support from the matron, manage complaints, HR issues, and resolution of incident forms and local governance matters.
* Provide professional leadership and management to all non-medical staff and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team.
* Work with lead consultants, matron, deputy service managers to manage clinic resources and address strategic issues; ensure appropriate clinical cover and maintain clinical standards at all times.
* As an accredited Nurse Colposcopist, work autonomously in a nurse-led Colposcopy and smear clinic to assess, diagnose, treat, and review patients referred to Colposcopy.
* Escalate abnormal pathologies to the lead colposcopist and ensure timely input of data onto the colposcopy database.
* With support from the Lead Nurse Colposcopist, update and use non-medical prescribing materials and patient information leaflets, and local policies/guidelines for colposcopy.
* Attend and present cases at the colposcopy multidisciplinary team meeting.
* Provide clinical leadership, safeguarding for vulnerable adults and children in line with trust policies, and support patients and families in decision-making processes.
* Assist with clinical lists or arrange appropriate clinician cover as needed.
* Monitor and improve nursing practice in line with trust and CQC standards; review the effectiveness of nursing care and initiate corrective actions when required.
* Ensure timely and accurate data entry for the colposcopy database to support quality improvement.
* Identify and support staff development, and participate in local governance and quality initiatives.
Qualifications and experience
* Experience in women's health; strong leadership and staff-management experience in a clinical environment.
* Auditing experience and ability to deputise for the lead nurse colposcopist.
* BSCCP accreditation is ideal; training can be provided for a suitable candidate in colposcopy.
* Ability to work in partnership with lead consultants, matron, and service managers to manage clinic resources and service development.
* Autonomous practice as a Nurse Colposcopist or willingness to train in LLETZ procedures and related colposcopy duties.
