We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of OpenShift Administrator (Lifecycle). This role is responsible for the end to end lifecycle management of OpenShift clusters across on premises and hybrid environments, including upgrades, patching, monitoring, troubleshooting, security configuration, and operational readiness. Role purpose (what you'll be accountable for) You will ensure the OpenShift platform is stable, secure, compliant, and continuously improved, enabling application teams to deploy and operate workloads safely. You will own day 2 operational processes including cluster upgrades, patching, backup/restore, capacity, observability, incident response, and operational documentation. Key responsibilities (What you'll do) 1) OpenShift lifecycle management (Day 2 Operations) Deploy, configure, and manage OpenShift clusters in on premises and hybrid environments, ensuring high availability and performance. Perform upgrades and patching of OpenShift clusters and associated components in line with release and vulnerability remediation cadence. Execute and maintain lifecycle runbooks for: Cluster/node maintenance (cordon/drain, node replacement, scaling) Certificate rotation and platform secrets hygiene Platform add ons lifecycle (ingress, registry, logging/monitoring operators) Carry out platform health checks, preventative maintenance, and continuous improvement actions based on operational insights. 2) Platform monitoring, reliability & performance Implement and operate monitoring and observability for OpenShift using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and/or ELK, including dashboarding, alert tuning, and proactive detection. Monitor and troubleshoot OpenShift workloads and cluster services, ensuring platform availability and performance, and driving remediation of recurring issues through automation. Support capacity planning: resource utilisation trends, cluster sizing, quota strategy, and performance optimisation recommendations. 3) Incident management & advanced troubleshooting Provide L2/L3 platform operations support: triage incidents, perform root cause analysis, and lead service restoration for OpenShift platform issues. Participate in an on call rota / after hours support as required to meet service commitments and change windows. Conduct post incident reviews, define preventative actions, and enhance runbooks/automation to reduce future impact. 4) Security, governance & compliance (controls driven operations) Manage OpenShift networking, storage, and security configurations including RBAC patterns, project/namespace governance, SCC/PSA alignment (where applicable), and policy enforcement. Implement security best practices and support evidence collection for audit/control assurance (platform hardening checks, change records, operational procedures). 5) Automation & Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Design and implement automation using Terraform, Ansible or equivalent, to standardise provisioning and configuration and to reduce manual operations. Develop reusable modules/templates for consistent cluster setup and operational tasks; integrate workflows into CI/CD where appropriate. 6) Collaboration & documentation Work closely with development, DevOps and operations teams to ensure seamless integration of infrastructure/platform services and application onboarding. Document platform designs, operational processes, troubleshooting guides, and best practices for internal knowledge sharing. Requirements (What you need to have to succeed in this role) Essential experience & skills Strong hands on experience in OpenShift administration including cluster operations, workload troubleshooting, and environment stability management. Demonstrable experience running OpenShift in on premises and/or hybrid environments, with practical understanding of networking, storage, and security configuration. Experience with upgrades and patching of OpenShift clusters and related platform components. Observability experience using Prometheus/Grafana and/or ELK stacks, including alerting and dashboarding. Automation/IaC experience with tools such as Terraform, Ansible or CloudFormation and Git based workflow. Strong collaboration and communication skills; comfortable working across global teams and documenting technical processes. Nice to have Experience operating container platforms in regulated environments and contributing to operational controls (runbooks, evidence packs, standard operating procedures). Broader DevOps platform experience (container tooling, CI/CD integration, operational tooling standardisation). Typical tooling & technology scope (indicative) OpenShift Container Platform (OCP 4.x) administration and operations IaC: Terraform / Ansible / equivalent automation tooling Monitoring/Logging: Prometheus, Grafana, ELK (or enterprise equivalents) Collaboration: Documentation/knowledge base and Agile delivery tooling as used by the organisation (e.g., backlog/operations workflows).
