NOW Education is currently recruiting an experienced Teaching Assistant to start immediately within a specialist school setting supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This is a fantastic opportunity to secure a full-time role with the opportunity to become permanent. The school provides education and support for primary and secondary aged pupils who may have experienced trauma, disrupted education, and behavioural challenges. Staff are supported within a structured and nurturing environment, making this an ideal setting for resilient and committed individuals who are passionate about supporting vulnerable learners.
We are looking for a proactive, adaptable and confident Teaching Assistant who can build strong relationships with pupils and contribute positively to their development, both academically and emotionally.
The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils across the school day, working both 1:1 and in small groups. You will assist teaching staff in delivering engaging lessons while helping pupils to regulate behaviour and access learning effectively.
Key Responsibilities
• Support pupils with SEMH needs on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
• Assist the class teacher with lesson delivery and classroom management
• Implement behaviour strategies and support de-escalation
• Build positive and consistent relationships with pupils
• Support emotional wellbeing and engagement with learning
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff and pastoral teams
What We’re Looking For
• Experience working within SEN or SEMH settings (essential)
• Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable)
• Strong behaviour management skills and resilience
• A calm, patient and adaptable approach
• Ability to build rapport with pupils who may present challenging behaviour
• A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
