Overview

This position involves delivering a specialised uniformed service. The post holder will safeguard patients, visitors and staff by providing a high-visibility presence, guiding people, and maintaining a safe and secure environment in line with legal requirements, including during emergency situations. The role includes liaising with emergency services and supporting the Trust’s policies for prevention and management of violent and abusive conduct.

The post holder may be required to work across NUH locations and perform car parking management duties, including addressing minor equipment faults. The role requires familiarity with the full Job Description and Person Specification documents attached to this advert.


Responsibilities

* Ensure safety and security of all persons and properties at Nottingham University Hospitals Trust and promote a safe environment while reducing fear of crime through a high-profile, visible presence.
* Carry out patrols and provide escorts as requested; undertake cash lifts following departmental procedures.
* Respond to security incidents within an agreed timeframe; use reasonable force if necessary and in line with Trust policy, law and legislation; seek clinical advice when responding to incidents where available.
* Monitor alarms and ensure all equipment is operational; report faults immediately.
* Use designated powers and policies to deter and prevent crime and anti-social behaviour; undertake necessary tasks and assess risks in restraining/detaining individuals when appropriate.
* Provide presence in the Emergency Department and offer guarding services (including bed watches) across the hospitals; support Fire Response & Major Incident teams as required and liaise with other departments and Fire Brigade.
* Promote a pro-security culture within the Trust; collect information/intelligence on crimes, identify suspects and trends, and report incidents as they occur.
* Participate in the Trust Development Programme for training Security Staff; use the patrolling system (Diester) for patrols and report discoveries in car parks as needed.
* Assist with car parking and traffic management duties when required; include minor fault repairs to car parking machines and reporting inappropriate parking.
* Investigate security incidents in a fair, objective and professional manner; determine appropriate sanctions and consider preventive action; attend court to give evidence when required.
* Ensure Health & Safety requirements are met and promote Equal Opportunities and Diversity policy adherence.
* Operate department communication equipment per policy; answer telephone queries courteously and provide guidance in line with Trust Procedures.
* Drive Trust vehicles as required; liaise with police, fire brigade and other emergency services for life preservation and danger prevention; conduct traffic management and car parking outside contracted hours as needed.
* Provide support with minor ID card/access control issues outside Access Control Office hours; be familiar with Trust policies and offer guidance.


Qualifications and Requirements

* Valid SIA Guarding Licence at all times while on duty; report expiry or revocation within 3 months to the Security Administrative Assistant or Assistant Security Manager, as applicable.
* Current PBS Training; maintain training records and report upcoming expiry to the appropriate supervisor.
* Shifts involve 12-hour day and night rotations, including weekends and bank holidays; pro rata salary and benefits apply for part-time roles.
* Smart, Trust-approved uniform worn at all times; maintain cleanliness of the work base and display ID badge at all times.
* Desirable: ability to work across multiple sites, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to handle challenging situations with professionalism.
