Your new role: Responsible for maximising productivity through proactive maintenance, reducing downtime and improving machine efficiency. Reports to the Engineering Manager and is a key member of the engineering team on the manufacturing sites. Tasks include ensuring work is carried out safely, keeping machines well‑maintained and in safe working condition, providing support and training to engineering apprentices, carrying out regulatory and statutory inspections, ensuring contractors are correctly managed on site, updating spare‑part inventory, keeping accurate records, providing detailed reports of maintenance, breakdowns and incidents, proposing ideas and solutions to improve machinery and processes, supporting the specification of new machinery, safely bringing new machinery into operation, and carrying out risk assessments and developing SSOWs. Working hours are Monday to Friday, 6am‑2pm. The role is based at Northern Upholstery, Doncaster.
What you'll be doing
* Ensuring all machinery and equipment is kept in a safe working condition
* Keeping machine and equipment downtime to a minimum
* Carrying out proactive planned maintenance tasks
* Carrying out reactive maintenance tasks
* Carrying out machine/equipment improvements to improve safety and/or efficiency
* Diagnosing faults effectively and making repairs whenever possible
* Implementing minor electrical installation works (depending on qualifications)
* Carrying out mechanical repair and/or replacement of equipment
* Ensuring all tasks are risk‑assessed through site‑specific, job‑specific or dynamic risk assessments
* Sourcing parts and materials from suppliers and arranging procurement
* Administering work permits and monitoring third‑party contractors
* Keeping accurate records
* Updating and maintaining the maintenance records
* Keeping work areas clean and tidy at all times
The role is for you if
* 5+ years’ experience in a maintenance role
* Minimum NVQ Level3 in Electrical or Mechanical
* Strong knowledge of engineering concepts, including electrical, pneumatic and mechanical systems
* Strong analytical thinking and decision‑making skills
* Good literacy and numeracy skills, able to keep track of and report on activity
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Team player
* Adaptable and flexible
* Tidy worker with good organisational skills
* Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with colleagues
