The successful applicant will undertake a range of activity in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with one protected session in the area that they wish to develop further skills on. At present the department can support further development in outpatient hysteroscopy, colposcopy, medical education, obstetric and fetal medicine and advanced labour ward practice. They will be expected to participate fully in the provision of general services in obstetrics and gynaecology for the population within the catchment area of Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital with outpatients and elective surgery based at Wycombe Hospital. The post carries a balanced job plan for the appointee and can be adapted to suit their special interests.
The successful candidate will participate in a two tier, full shift rota (1 in 8) of 16 Registrars/Specialty Doctors. This post also offers the opportunity to develop managerial and leadership skills. Medical Education and Training Regular meetings are held in the department - these include teaching sessions for junior colleagues, perinatal audit, MDT meetings, hospital-wide and departmental audit meetings, in addition to the regular clinical risk forums. The Trust has a strong partnership with Oxford clinical school and a number of other medical schools and provides teaching attachments for clinical students in a range of specialties.
Those who contribute substantially to teaching students are eligible for an honorary senior clinical lectureship. Further expansion in student numbers is planned. There are modern, well-equipped education centres and libraries on all three sites with an active programme of continuing education for senior medical staff, training grade doctors and general practitioners. The education centres are fully equipped with lecture theatres, seminar rooms and state of the art audio-visual equipment.
The libraries are housed within the education centres and are accessible 24 hours a day providing access to many healthcare databases and access to over 1000 journals in electronic full text that can be accessed at work or at home from any computer with internet connection. Each speciality clinical service undertakes monthly academic, audit and governance meetings, which are multidisciplinary and involve staff from other sites. Routine clinical commitments are usually cancelled to enable all staff to fully participate. Career Advice and Counselling Career advice and guidance should be sought in the first instance from your educational supervisor, who will normally be a consultant for whom you work.
Career problems may be discussed with your unit Clinical Tutor and/or your Postgraduate Dean. For further information please contact Miss Deepa Nair, Consultant and Educational Lead, Obstetrics and Gynaecology on 01296 831562 ().
