The Role
NHS Lanarkshire is looking to recruit a Clinical Secretary - Surgical & Critical Care.
The Clinical Secretary will type dictated clinical letters (discharges, clinic follow up, onward referrals, legal reports etc) and clinical notes, meeting minutes when appropriate and prioritise work to meet agreed service standards. You will organise clinical activity for clinicians and re-arrange activities when required (eg. out-patient clinics, operating lists). Support theatre scheduling as required. Follow up administrative tasks requested by clinicians, such as booking appointments, arranging investigative tests, chasing up diagnostic results etc. Anticipate problems (eg. clashing appointments, delays in results being available) and take appropriate action. Maintain accurately coded and timely records on electronic systems that are used to capture information about patient journeys (eg. appointment bookings Trakcare). Maintain accurate and neat paper based case records relating to patient care you are dealing with. Collect and deliver these case records when they are required urgently for ongoing clinical care. Answer patient enquiries relating to the organisation of their care, including the booking of appointments. Make suitable arrangements for them to speak to clinicians, where appropriate. Open mail, take any appropriate administrative action and direct it to the appropriate clinician. Manage diary arrangements for clinicians that relate to their NHS role(s) and organise meetings where appropriate. Contribute to regular reviews of performance within the administrative team and clinical team, identifying opportunities to make improvements to the quality and efficiency of services.

What we'll need you to bring
1. SVQ level 2 qualification (or equivalent experience) plus at least 2 years experience in healthcare administration or at least 3 years experience in a secretarial role
2. Understanding of medical terminology
3. Evidence of effective team working and dealing with change
4. Evidence of strong communication skills with patients, clinicians and colleagues.
5. Excellent organisational skills
6. Evidence of strong competence with relevant IT systems
7. Audio typing skills
It would be great if you also have
8. Medical Terminology Qualification
9. Proficient in use of software systems.
10. Knowledge of Trakcare & Winscribe Digital Dictation
11. Microsoft office packages

Please note this is a part time post and the salary for this position will be pro-rata.
Location and Working Pattern
This role will be based in Surgical & Critical Care within University Hospital Hairmyres
The working pattern for this role: 3 days per week
