About the Role
As a Consultant Rheumatologist, you will join an established multidisciplinary team providing a comprehensive rheumatology service to Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary and the wider community.
You will work closely with consultant colleagues, specialist nurses, physiotherapists, and wider MDT teams to deliver high‑quality outpatient care, inflammatory arthritis management, biologics monitoring, and specialist clinics.
The role offers opportunities to develop subspecialty interests, contribute to service development, and shape rheumatology pathways within a modern, well‑equipped hospital environment.
Responsibilities
1. Provide consultant‑level care for rheumatology outpatients and day‑unit patients
2. Lead and participate in specialist clinics (e.g., inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue disease, osteoporosis)
3. Oversee biologic and DMARD monitoring pathways
4. Contribute to MDTs, including radiology and specialist case discussions
5. Provide advice and support to acute teams regarding rheumatology inpatients
6. Support and supervise junior doctors, trainees, and specialist nurses
7. Contribute to clinical governance, audit, service improvement, and GIRFT initiatives
8. Support education, appraisal, and CPD activities within the department

What we're Looking For
Essential:
14. MBBS or equivalent medical degree
15. Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
16. Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Rheumatology (or within 6 months of CCT/CESR)
17. UK Right to Work
18. DBS/PVG check (or willingness to complete)
Desirable:
19. Interest in developing a recognised subspecialty area
20. Experience contributing to teaching, audit, or service development
21. Experience in biologics management or specialist rheumatology pathways
