The Senior Healthcare Support Worker will assist the Registered Nurse in the delivery of safe, high quality clinical care to patients at all times.
The post holder will work under direct and indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse and will receive appropriate training for the clinical setting.
Once trained and deemed competent, the post holder will undertake clinical tasks and duties within the scope of this job description, working collaboratively to meet patient and family needs and follow Group policies and procedures.
This role requires commitment to a work‑based learning and development programme to undertake a Level 2 or 3 HCSW Apprenticeship, including the Care Certificate.
Responsibilities
* Assess patient condition through observations/test results and instigate emergency procedures as appropriate.
* Assist patients with activities of daily living, including eating, drinking, toileting and providing fundamental care.
* Practice safe moving and handling procedures when assisting patients with mobility, using appropriate equipment such as glide sheets, hoists and point‑of‑care testing, and demonstrate proficiency.
* Escort patients to other hospital departments in accordance with Trust/Group procedures, ensuring their privacy and dignity.
* Provide patient‑centred, compassionate and professional care at all times, respecting cultural beliefs and values.
* Clean clinical equipment before and after use.
* Record personally generated patient information onto patient records, e.g. observations, tests, fluid balance, nutrition, height, weight and age.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Level 2 or 3 HCSW Apprenticeship (incl. Care Certificate) and commitment to a work‑based learning programme.
* Relevant training and competency in safe moving and handling, point‑of‑care testing and clinical procedures.Awareness of and adherence to Group policies, procedures and confidentiality standards.Certificates such as DBS (if required for the role); new employees starting work will be charged for the cost of their DBS check.
