The team
The ADAS Soils and Nutrients Team delivers research and consultancy projects for a range of clients including government, levy bodies, European Commission, and corporate organisations. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of current research projects investigating soil health, soil ecosystem services, peatland, crop nutrition, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and the utilisation of organic materials in agricultural systems. The role will involve writing scientific papers and reports as well as developing proposals and representing ADAS at industry events and national and international scientific conferences.
The role
We require a research scientist with the knowledge and drive to further develop our business in improving soil and nutrient management. The successful candidate will:
1. Demonstrate scientific and research skills and contribute to the delivery of existing projects and development of new proposals for funding.
2. Develop an understanding of the policy issues relating to the work carried out by the Soils and Nutrients group and become familiar with the principles of crop nutrient management.
3. Analyse and interpret data from experiments.
4. Write experiment protocols, project reports and scientific papers.
5. Present results at project meetings, industry events and national and international scientific conferences.
6. Build internal and external contacts and develop own experience and expertise.
The successful candidate will have:
7. A degree or equivalent in Soil Science, Agricultural or Environmental Science, or a related subject
8. A good understanding of soil and nutrient management in agricultural systems
9. Good verbal and written communication skills
10. Good organisational and planning skills
11. The ability to develop effective working relationships with clients and collaborators, and work effectively as part of a team to achieve common goals
12. Full UK driving licence with access to your own vehicle and within commutable distance to our office at Boxworth, Cambridgeshire is required
13. Flexibility - as there will be a need for travel within the UK and occasionally in Europe and further afield
