Overview
The Exercise Physiologist will play a key role in the Community Respiratory Team (CRS) in West and Central Sussex, providing Pulmonary Rehabilitation (PR) services to our patients, both face-to-face classes, virtually and in the home of the patient. Our PR programmes and promotion of active lifestyles can make a significant difference to the lives of individuals with chronic lung disease. The post holder will participate in triage, assessment, treatment delivery and post-program assessment. They will work with each patient to understand their condition and how PR and active lifestyle changes will support them to live well with a long-term pulmonary condition.
Responsibilities
* Maintain own personal professional development, identifying educational and clinical training needs in conjunction with lead physiotherapist and/or senior staff. Lead on the provision of PR services both face-to-face and virtual.
* Undertake assessment of patients with diverse or complex physical, psychological, cognitive and behavioural conditions to deliver appropriate exercise therapy.
* Communicate with wider MDTs, service users, carers, stakeholders, the public and their representatives, ensuring effective & accurate information is delivered.
* Identify equipment faults and resolve fault issues by reporting them in a timely manner to senior staff members.
* Be responsible for the day-to-day running of the area in which they are working.
* Contact patients by telephone to rebook appointments for DNAs to suit service availability and patient choice.
* Collect, collate and disseminate complex and sensitive data relating to patient results to relevant health professionals and teams as required.
* Communicate efficiently on the telephone with all staff, patients and visitors.
* Be cost-effective in the use of equipment and resources.
* Assist in audit and research as necessary.
* Engage in supervision and education of junior staff and students.
* Actively contribute to the clinical knowledge share programme in CRS.
Qualifications and Experience
Qualifications/Professional registration Essential
* Current registration with the RCCP
* Degree in Exercise physiology/Sport and Exercise sciences
Desirable
* Membership of relevant clinical interest groups e.g. BACPR, BASES, REPs
Experience Essential
* Demonstrable experience of the application of exercise physiology in regards to exercise assessment and training.
* Knowledge of exercise training in relation to cardiorespiratory disease
Desirable
* Evidence of relevant postgraduate courses/CPD in Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
* Good clinical reasoning skills based on evidence and current research.
Skills and knowledge Essential
* Ability to motivate others to participate in exercise and educate regarding the benefits of exercise therapy.
* Ability to perform and demonstrate a range of exercises for those attending clinical sessions.
* Experience in the safe and correct use of a range of exercise equipment.
* Ability to work well individually and as part of a wider team.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Well-developed IT skills across a range of applications.
Desirable
* Evidence of presentation and teaching skills within exercise physiology.
Other Essential
* Hold a full UK driving licence with business insurance for work travel.
