The Department of Architecture invites applications for a full-time Teaching Associate working within the Department of Architecture starting from 1 October 2025 and until 31 August 2026.
The post-holder will have an exemplary teaching track records in design studio, coupled with socio-political dimensions of history and theory, with research publications in these areas.
The role will contribute to research-led teaching across the Department that draws on Cambridge's research rich environment and supports and maintains the University's national and international reputation for excellence. The Department is going through a period of unprecedented change and growth and we welcome pedagogical innovations that enhance student learning and experience.
The full-time role teaching within the Department will involve leading optional courses in History and Theory to second/third-year undergraduate students, teaching ad hoc lectures and seminars to MPhil/MArch students as well as a small amount of studio teaching cover. They will also supervise and assess MPhil/MArch theses and, as appropriate, set and assess coursework and studio work, providing prompt high quality feedback to students.
The post-holder would also be expected to provide at least 80 hours of supervisions for their own course and for first year undergraduates and for dissertations for which additional remuneration would be made by the Colleges.
Additionally the post-holder will have a central coordination role in the Master of Architecture (MArch), working closely with the Course Leaders and Design Fellows. In all cases the appointee will be expected to contribute to administrative duties, commensurate with the role. Attendance at staff meetings, awaydays and other relevant meetings are part of the role.
Candidates must be skilled in successfully developing and delivering teaching in architecture and design at university level, have experience of developing teaching material for lectures and seminars, by introducing innovative material or developing and shaping course activities.
Candidates should have completed, or are about to complete, a PhD in the socio-political dimensions of architectural history, theory or related topic.
The posts are based in central Cambridge, in the Faculty of Architecture & History of Art, 1-5 Scroope Terrace http://www.aha.cam.ac.uk/ and Mill Lane.
