Job Overview
We are seeking a 12‑month Locum Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedics, focusing on Adult Trauma and Lower Limb Surgery, to join a team of 24 Orthopaedic Consultants at our Trust's Pinderfields, Pontefract & Dewsbury hospitals. The role emphasizes Lower Limb surgical service and requires a sub‑specialty interest and fellowship experience in this area, with in‑depth adult trauma training.
Responsibilities
- Provide a comprehensive orthopaedic service including general adult and paediatric trauma, with particular experience in lower and upper limb trauma.
- Take clinical responsibility for patients under your care and deliver evidence‑based care in a multidisciplinary setting.
- Contribute to undergraduate, postgraduate, and multi‑professional educational development.
- Participate in a 1:16 on‑call commitment for urgent and emergency care and demonstrate active trauma management.
- Deliver a comprehensive lower‑limb surgical service, focusing on day‑case and inpatient trauma surgery, and develop adult elective lower‑limb service including out‑patient assessment, investigation and treatment.
- Maintain fellowship‑level subspecialty lower‑limb surgery training and recent experience in general adult trauma.
Person Specification – Essential Criteria
- Full GMC registration with license to practice, on the GMC Specialist Register.
- Medical degree from an accredited medical school.
- FRCS (Trauma & Orthopaedics) or equivalent.
- ATLS provider.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Experience in independent consultant practice in general orthopaedics & trauma.
- Fellowship experience in lower‑limb surgery (minimum 6 months).
- Demonstrated analytical problem‑solving ability.
- Evidence of audit work that has led to change.
- Skill in organising and managing a clinical workload.
- Research skills, including publication of peer‑reviewed articles and a clear understanding of research methodology.
- Knowledge of NHS structures and management arrangements.
- Strong time‑management skills.
- Ability to contribute to the development of the Trust and its services.
- Excellent communication skills with staff and patients.
- Compassionate and caring attitude.
- Flexibility, adaptability and willingness to learn and adhere to local policies.
- Proven teamwork skills and the ability to work within multidisciplinary teams.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties and demonstrate required competencies.
- Ability to access all Trust sites in a timely manner.
- Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance.
