About The Role Compass Community is an independent organisation committed to caring for nearly 2,000 children and young people in Fostering and Residential Homes and strive to support children’s needs cognitively, socially, emotionally and sensorially. Therapeutic Services at Compass is growing and developing and has an embedded record of successful evidence of our Assessing and Healing Complex Trauma (AHCT) approach which has already made a difference to the lives of 100’s of young people. The Therapeutic Practitioner will work within our Learning Disability Residential and Education Service with young people, all of whom have a moderate to severe Learning Disability and Neurodiversity. The post will involve working as part of a well-integrated multidisciplinary team to support the delivery of therapeutic interventions. The post holder should have a clear understanding of Learning Disabilities and an awareness of communication methods appropriate for individuals with a Learning Disability. The post holder will have good working knowledge in understanding the needs of children and young people in the Care sector. MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB: · As the Therapeutic Practitioner in the Therapeutic Services Team, you will be central to our holistic approach of working together, linking our Home, School and Therapeutic Services to ensure a fully integrated therapeutic approach. · You will be based in Residential Homes enabling staff in a range of ways to recognise the destructive elements that trauma and learning difficulties plays on child development, promoting a philosophy of therapeutic understanding. · The successful applicant will receive specialist training in delivering our SLD/AHCT approach which you will then be promoting and enabling all Residential Staff to fully understand in their support for the children in our care. · We are looking for someone who is adaptable and ready to learn and grow; we are a Therapeutic Home and believe in a healing approach to behaviour. Our Therapeutic Practitioner would need to both believe, lead and teach this, working holistically. This involves 1 evening per week/1 later start. · You will be training Residential staff and be a key part to child focused discussions. · You will run Therapeutic groups with young people and role model application of therapeutic interactions and best practice between staff and the young people within the homes. · You will provide therapeutic support and reflective guidance. · You will ensure that safeguarding is paramount and safeguarding policies are adhered to. Requirements: · Experience of working with young with Learning Difficulties and Neurodiversity. · Minimum two years’ experience of working with children in the Looked After Sector. · Good Leadership and training skills. · Level 5 in Management or Equivalent is desirable. · Strong understanding of speech and language communication complexities. · Evidence of Therapeutic and SLD Training/Qualifications · Therapeutic qualification or working towards. Membership body desirable · Strong understanding of Attachment and Loss. · Active, energetic, creative, outgoing yet empathic character. · Good Communicator and Fluent English speaking · Full driving licence · Experience of group work with young people desirable · Experience of assessment in intervention · Evidence of literary ability to Level 5/A level standard. · Understanding responsibilities in protecting their own health, safety and wellbeing and that of their colleagues and others.
