About the role:
The successful candidate will work as part of a the Capital team within the Finance Department team providing financial and administrative assistance to the accounting team. Responsibilities typically include processing transactions, maintaining records, supporting budget monitoring, and assisting with financial reporting. The role ensures compliance with council procedures and contributes to efficient financial management across departments.

1. Accuracy in processing financial transactions, maintaining records, and preparing reports is essential for compliance and audit readiness.
2. Works effectively within finance teams and across departments, supporting budget managers and contributing to shared goals.
3. Knowledge of council financial procedures, including year-end processes, asset management, and grant-related activities, is beneficial for supporting financial operations effectively.
4. Confident use of Microsoft Excel and financial systems to manage data and generate reports.
5. Strong written and verbal communication skills
What you will do:
6. Working as part of a finance team that provides an efficient and effective accountancy service to the Council.
7. Process financial transactions, maintain accounts and respond to financial queries to ensure robust, timely and accurate financial information.
8. Assist in the groundwork and basic preparation of capital budgets and then help maintain systems and procedures for the effective financial operation of the Council to facilitate accurate budgetary management and forecasting
9. Assist service managers and project leads with budget queries, forecasts, and financial planning related to capital schemes
10. Help prepare and submit capital-related grant claims, ensuring compliance with funding conditions and council financial regulations
11. Generate system reports and contribute to analytical reviews, statutory returns, and reconciliations to support decision-making
