Consultant Psychiatrist in Adult Learning Disability

The Adult Learning Disability (ALD) directorate in North Yorkshire and York locality of TEWV comprises four community teams based in York, Scarborough, Knaresborough, and Northallerton. The service is also developing a Community Intensive Support Team (IST) based in York, covering North Yorkshire, York, and Selby.
This post will provide input into the Scarborough, Whitby, Ryedale area with a base in Scarborough. It is commissioned by the Humber and North Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership.
Referrals are received in each locality; each team operates a local duty system, triages referrals, and provides advice and support to referrers. The team collaborates with partners from Primary Care, Local Authority, and Voluntary Sector. This is a well-established post arising from the internal transfer of the current Consultant Psychiatrist.
Main duties of the job
The post is based within the Adult Learning Disability community team at Systems House, Clifton Moor, York, covering North York, Easingwold, and Pocklington. The team is highly regarded and collaborates well with local statutory and third sector partners. The estimated population in York is 208,079 (2019), with a notable aged population and diverse family structures.
The consultant will hold clinics and make home visits across the area, maintaining good relationships with local adult mental health services. Patients requiring inpatient treatment are admitted under Greenlight arrangements to Adult Mental Health wards, with access to Learning Disability beds at Bank Fields Court, Middlesbrough.

Leadership

Academic Skills & Lifelong Learning
* Deliver undergraduate/postgraduate teaching; participate in CPD, research, and service evaluation; use clinical evidence; lead clinical audits leading to service changes.
Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent; GMC registered with license; higher degree in medical education, research, or management; MRCPsych or equivalent; Approved Clinician and Section 12 Status or ability to achieve within 3 months.
Clinical Knowledge & Skills
* Excellent specialty knowledge; strong clinical skills; effective communication; manage complexity and uncertainty; meet duties under MHA and MCA; relevant NHS or comparable experience.
Experience
* Describe relevant clinical experience; any additional applicable experience.
