🔧 Contract Electronic Design Engineer (Medical Devices)
📍 Hybrid / Remote with occasional site visits | £60–£75/hr | 6-month initial contract
🛠️ Reliability Improvement | PCB Redesign | Next-Gen MedTech
A well-established medical device business is investing heavily in improving the reliability and performance of its flagship medical device. They’re looking for an experienced Electronic Design Engineer to help lead the next stage of technical evolution.
The project:
Working alongside the Head of Engineering, your initial focus will be to address known reliability issues in the field and implement improvements to existing PCB designs. Once stabilised, the next phase will involve a full redesign of legacy electronics for improved manufacturability and serviceability, supporting a wider product refresh and future development roadmap.
Key Responsibilities:
* Investigate existing PCB failure modes and recommend practical solutions (inrush current, relay design, etc.)
* Redesign and modernise legacy PCBs (5+ boards)
* Collaborate closely with mechanical, production, and service teams to ensure a more efficient build and maintenance process
* Support prototype testing and design validation
Requirements:
* Solid experience in electronic design for regulated medical devices
* Familiarity with ISO 13485 and IEC 60601 standards
* PCB layout and circuit design expertise
* Ideally experienced with Proteus (or able to learn quickly)
* Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
This is a key role in a high-impact engineering programme, with the chance to shape both current product stability and future development.
