Offer description

Overview

The NHS is building a culture that is positive, compassionate and inclusive. We are committed to protecting and promoting the physical and mental health and wellbeing of all our colleagues, underpinning our values in the NHS Constitution and supporting us to be an Employer of Choice. We are a flexible employer and will consider flexible working arrangements where possible. We are an accredited Living Wage Employer.

Role details

Choices College (formerly Project Choice) is a supported internship programme that aims to support young adults with learning difficulties, disabilities or autism to become employment ready. The role of a student support worker is to support our interns on a one-to-one basis within a workplace setting to enable them to reach their full potential.

The role advertised may be based at a home office base, but we remain committed to flexibility around workplace locations. These posts are for applicants who do not require guaranteed full-time hours and are able to be flexible on hours and areas worked within a local geographical area. This is a 0 hour contract; current vacancies are in the Sheffield area and willingness to travel is essential.

Key responsibilities

* Managing the day-to-day delivery of one-to-one support for a student with autism, learning disability, difficulty or disability.
* Delivering high-quality Targeted Supported Intervention (TSI) based learning.
* Supporting mentors to support the student.
* Interpreting sensitive information to support a very anxious student to learn to work.
* Assisting in the development of bespoke learning plans.
* Reporting and communicating information effectively to the area manager and mentor.
* Supporting the student 1:1 in a classroom environment.

Qualifications and attributes

A passion for supporting students with SEN to meet their full potential is essential for this role.

Our commitments to you

We are passionate about creating an inclusive workplace that values diversity and enables growth. We offer opportunities for development, and welcome talent irrespective of age, disability, neuro-divergence, sex, gender identity and gender expression, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, sexual orientation, or other personal circumstances. We have policies to ensure fair recruitment, including reasonable adjustments for people with disabilities or neuro-divergent needs. We welcome applications from disabled candidates and, if you meet all essential criteria, you will be guaranteed an interview.

Please note that you should provide information that reflects your own knowledge, skills and experience, including if you have received support with your application. If applying on a secondment basis, obtain prior agreement from your current line manager to apply. We currently do not accept applications via recruitment agencies. For GovS 007 compliance, some roles may require Baseline Personnel Security Standards checks. The NHS Business Services Authority handles your application; a privacy notice explains how we process your data. If you applied via NHS Jobs, your application may be imported into our third-party recruitment system, and information may be transferred to the NHS Electronic Staff Records system if appointed.
